The second annual All Aboard The Arc! state wide event is taking place Sunday, April 29th in Boston, Massachusetts and Justin Hines will be there! All Aboard the Arc! is designed to raise funds and increase awareness of our cause – enhancing the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

All Aboard The Arc! is a statewide pledge event in which anyone can participate – individuals with disabilities, families, community members, local leaders, supporters of The Arc, students, and employee groups.  Riders are asked to raise a minimum of $300 or $600 by soliciting pledges from their families, friends and co-workers.  By doing this, they will qualify for a seat on one of the dozens of buses that will form a caravan on Sunday, April 29th, 2012, departing from local Arc chapters across Massachusetts, all converging on our central venue, The John Hancock Hall, where Justin will be performing.

Join me on the Bridge is the coming together of women and men around the world, united in taking a stand for PEACE and women’s EQUALITY.

Now in it’s third year, the Join me on the Bridge campaign started in 2010 when women from Congo and Rwanda joined together on the bridge connecting their two countries, showing that they could build the bridges of peace and hope for the future. This action sparked a massive global movement, and last year they were joined by thousands of people on hundreds of bridges worldwide.

On International Women’s Day, March 8th, thousands of people will show that they are with the women of Afghanistan, Iraq, Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan and other war-torn countries.

We stand with these women to give them strength and to show we support their demands for peace and equality. Women are peace builders and with equality at the peace negotiation tables and governing bodies of their countries they will build a more peaceful world.

Now is the time for women around the world to unite in building bridges, joining on bridges and celebrating what is possible on bridges. Stronger women are building the bridges of peace for our future.

Women for Women International is inviting you to share your message of peace, equality and love.
Here are the steps to take part:

1) Take a photo of you and/or multiple people holding your whiteboard message. If you’re having a Join me on the Bridge event, this is a perfect place to take the photo!
2) Make your message legible and large enough to see in a photo – dark/black ink is best
3) Be careful with flash in your photography – it can obscure your written message
4) Take a high quality (relatively large) photo
5) Email your photo(s) to getinvolved@womenforwomen.org with the subject line Music Video Submission. Include your name(s), city and state in your email.

Hope this February day finds you feeling good. It’s incredible that we have so many tools to keep in touch, so it seems like it’s time to do just that through the ol’ blog!

Just wanted to start off by sending love to those who were close to one of the most amazing contributors to music the world has ever known, Whitney Houston. Like Michael Jackson, others before and likely many after, so much attention was given to Whitney’s life off stage. I’m sure most of you, however, would agree that she had a voice which could stir all kinds of emotion in her listeners. What a testament to her talent and to the beauty of music as a whole! I often wonder if there will ever come a time where people in the public eye, or perhaps even just everyday people can live out their journeys without judgement. A lofty hope indeed but a guy can dream, can’t he? Whitney, thank you for sharing your gift my friend and here’s to hoping you’ve found peace…

Wherever you shine your light is where you see the most. I believe that statement to be proving true with every passing day. The incredible team I’m a part of has decided to make it a mission to seek out ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Since taking on that task, it’s been amazing to see these inspiring people showing up in our lives when we least expect it! I’d like to share two quick stories with you of those who have made an impact on us in our travels over the last few months.

While on tour recently, my wife and I were having breakfast at a diner in Alexandria, Virginia. After we had finished and were in the process of paying for our meals, the waiter told us that it had already been taking care of by another customer. I was slightly puzzled and asked who was kind of enough to do this? As it turns out, one of their regular customers takes it upon himself to randomly pay for meals for the elderly, war veterans or people with physical challenges. He does so completely anonymous. Needless to say, that unknown gentleman made our day.

We also met an amazing man named Bill Austin, a specialist in auditory care who founded an equally amazing charity called the Starkey Hearing Foundation. Basically, they have provided state of the art hearing aids to hundreds of thousand underprivileged folks around the world. What’s incredible is the follow-up they do with each person that they help as well as the fact the Mr. Austin himself participates in the missions by fitting the recipients. It’s such an amazing organization with a genuine desire to give the gift of hearing.

Those are two very different examples of charitable acts but in my opinion, have equally great impact on the world. It seems that a large part of “charity” is conceptually tied to something financial. I tend to think, however, that a good intended smile can make all the difference to a person who is having a miserable day. I guess what I’m trying to get at is that if the thought of going out and “saving the world” feels a little overwhelming, perhaps practicing something simple on somebody close to you is the way the to go. It won’t be wasted, I promise.
